A supportive and nurturing environment is required for a wheeled pedestrian to flourish. Its age can range from very young to very old. Speeding motorists and high volume traffic movements will scare it off. It’s not afraid of hills or rain but it does need a comfortable bike with mudguards and provision to carry library books, shopping or children. It moves about slowly and carefully. Helmet law is its kryptonite. It reacts negatively to hi-viz and lycra clothing. It has been known to be quite bold when offered separated cycle facilities on busy arterial roads. It is not remotely tempted to move in bus lanes and has proven to have no taste for advanced stop boxes. It has recently been discovered (but not widely known) that a wheeled pedestrian makes prolific economic, health and environmental contributions to its community.*
*It is noted that certain members of the Vehicular Society would like to see all wheeled pedestrians eradicated due to their blatant disregard for the laws of vehicular transportation, particulary its propensity for moving along the footpath when it feels threatened.
Cycling. It’s as easy as walking, but faster….
