Orakei Basin shared footpath and cycleway open

Good news! Paul pointed out that the new Orakei Basin walk/cycleway from Purewa St (by Meadowbank Station) to Orakei Road is now open.

I did a trial cycle across it this morning and for Eastern Suburb cyclists this offers a quiet and fume-free alternative to the busy St Johns Road/Remuera Road/Orakei Road route to get to the waterfront.

At 9:30AM this morning it was in steady use by strollers, dog walkers and joggers. It is wide enough for 3 people to walk abreast so I was easily able to pass people.
