    • Changing to a nice old bike with moustache bars utterly changed my cycling experience forever – no going back. I can't for the life of me think why most Australasian bicycles have flat bars – a design 'improvement' on something that was never broke.

It pains me to look into most kiwi cycle shops, filled as they are with hybrid bicycles that will mostly end up stored in a garage somewhere – because they're simply uncomfortable to ride.

If you haven't tried riding a classic dutch style bike, yes – as Mike Robbo suggests, ideally with a raised stem, as well as the moustache bars, you simply won't know what you're missing.

Rise up cycle-riders, you have nothing to lose but your er.. uncomfyness.

    • Awesome, I have been trying to convince my wife for years to change over to sit up and beg bars, the excellent vid might just about do the trick. I will have to stay quite for a bit.

    • Had given up hope these would ever appear in a NZ bike shop so went to a BMXstyle handlebar as the nearest I could get to a sit up and beg but they are still the wrong angle so my wrists are skewed – off to T.H.Whites tomorrow to buy a pair of these!!!
