The Friday night ride home is always a great one. But when the weather is beautiful like it has been all this week, it is even more special. I took an even slower approach tonight to really soak up the ambiance of the Manukau Foreshore. I was completely amazed by the number of cyclists out and about. As far as I could see, I was the only one in office clothes but it’s still early days.
I stopped often to take photos and to talk to other cyclists, new and familiar. I had a great chat with a gentleman waxing lyrical about his newly discovered world of cycling. One more person who has caught the bug. The only downer was that he had never heard of Cycle Action. More work to do in that area obviously.
It is a hive of construction activity around the Manukau Harbour. The new cycle bridge is nearly complete and the cycle paths in the area are also close to completion. I heard the other day that Steven Joyce, the Minister of Transport will be opening the bridge with a big community focused event on the morning of Sunday 28th November. It would be great to have lots of cyclists there for the event to show the Minister that we do appreciate these new facilities. It is a weekend event this time. There was a good turnout at the Kingsland cycle way and that was a week day. And will the Minister take a ride on a bike this time?
Cycle Action Auckland – a voice for cyclists

Sorry for my geographical short-comings – is this bridge around Mangere Bridge/Onehunga area?
Opps – don't worry, just seen a street name I can lookup
The new bridge is at the end of the old Mangere Bridge where it meets Onehunga Harbour Rd.
