The momentum is growing. I can feel it.

I would have loved to have taken my family along to the Bikes for Life rally on Sunday.  I live a mere 10km from the CBD.  A casual 35 minute ride along Mt Eden Rd.  But I didn’t.  Not because of the hills.  The bus doesn’t quite cut it.  A car would have required parking.  I hate paying for parking when I can roll up quietly and easily on my bike and park at my destination.  It was a day made for riding a bike with loved ones.

I am used to the ride along Mt Eden Rd.  I have done it for decades.  It’s the parked cars, the speeding cars, the intolerant drivers, the right turning traffic that make what should be an easy ride into something slightly less attractive.

And that’s exactly why I attended the Bike for Life Rally on Sunday.  It was a great event and I am looking forward to more opportunities for the people of Auckland to come together to celebrate the joys of riding a bike.

Because we just can’t let it ride anymore.
