Manukau Foreshore in the Spring

Bike Wise is a government organisation that exists to organise bike rides and bike events to promote cycling.  Bike Wise events take place in February when the weather is even more perfect for riding a bike.  Then some clever person asked some clever questions.  Why don’t we hold some bike rides in the Spring?  Why don’t we get people who are new to cycling out on their bikes earlier in the year so that they can become  confident cyclists when Bike Wise rolls into town?

Pedaling into Summer is a series of easy and relaxed rides designed to give new riders an opportunity to gain confidence riding around Auckland in the company of and led by experienced cyclists.

1) Picnic With Lambs ~ Onehunga to Ambury Park

The Blurb: Join us for a short, gentle and leisurely ride from Onehunga to Ambury Farm and back.   From Onehunga we will ride to the old Mangere Bridge.   We will cross the bridge and then follow the quiet back roads along the Manukau Harbour all the way to Ambury Farm. There are definitely no hills to climb.  There will be time at Ambury for a short break.  Bring water and a snack.  Public toilets are available in the park. We will then return to Onehunga with the option of stopping for a coffee and lunch at The Library Cafe, 55 Princes St, Onehunga.

Date: Sunday 26 September 2010
Time: 10:00am for a pre-ride briefing. The ride will depart at 10:30am.
Where: Meet outside the Onehunga Community Centre, 83 Church St.

If you would like to RSVP, that would help with planning.  Email chair@caa.org.nz or tel: 021 02283812

Journey Planner: There is plenty of parking nearby and remember, the new Onehunga Train Station is now open.  See Maxx for timetable info.

All the Pedaling into Summer rides will be listed on Cycle Action’s new website (going live Monday 27 September).

Small Print: Rides will be led by Cycle Action.  A pre-ride briefing about road and bike safety will be held.   While Cycle Action will take all care to ensure a safe and enjoyable ride, all participants are responsible for their own safety and ride at their own risk.  These rides are not designed for complete novices.
